Abstract

Environmental problems at the village level are not only related to the technical aspects of management, but are also influenced by low environmental literacy, suboptimal community participation, and limited local institutional capacity in supporting sustainable environmental governance. This community service program aims to increase community understanding and strengthen environmental governance based on citizen participation in Sumur Pecung Village, Serang City. The activity was carried out with a participatory empowerment approach through the stages of preparation and initial mapping, socialization and presentation of materials, interactive discussions, implementive assistance, participatory monitoring and evaluation, and strengthening program sustainability. The activity involved approximately 20 people consisting of village officials, RT/RW chairs, community leaders, youth, and citizen representatives. The methods used include the delivery of material on participation-based environmental governance, group discussions, identification of environmental problems, and assistance in the preparation of joint action plans. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the importance of sustainable environmental management, a growing awareness that environmental management is a shared responsibility, and an increasing commitment of the community and the village government to strengthen coordination in the implementation of environmental programs.
