Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women is a nutritional problem that requires attention through education and continuous support. Family support plays an important role in helping pregnant women meet their nutritional needs during pregnancy. This community service program aimed to improve knowledge and family involvement in supporting the nutritional needs of pregnant women at risk of CED and to monitor changes in anthropometric indicators during the intervention. The program was conducted from August 15 to 30, 2026, in Tanjung Sari Village, Batang Kuis District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. It involved 20 pregnant women at risk of CED and 20 family members. The activities included baseline measurements, nutrition education, individual counseling, demonstrations of nutritious meal planning, family support, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test assessments and repeated measurements of mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) and body weight. The evaluation showed that the mean knowledge score increased from 61.5 to 84.0, representing an improvement of 22.5 points. The proportion of participants classified as having good knowledge increased from 30% to 85%. The manuscript also reported an increase in mean MUAC from 20.95 cm to 21.58 cm and mean body weight from 44.25 kg to 46.35 kg. Family involvement was reported to reach 100%, although the indicators used to measure this outcome require further clarification. These findings suggest that family-based nutrition support may help improve knowledge and support the nutritional needs of pregnant women at risk of CED. However, changes in anthropometric indicators should be interpreted cautiously because they may be influenced by gestational age and individual factors.
